July 11, 2011: Splitting of /pony/ and /oat/ The community divides into two boards: /pony/ for pony discussion and /oat/ for off-topic discussion.
January 12, 2012: Creation of /ef/ A more relaxed, 4chan-like board introduced after user complaints about strict moderation.
July 13, 2012: Creation of MLPchan Due to growing dissatisfaction with strict moderation, users from Old Ponychan split off to form MLPchan under Anonthony.

April 24, 2015: Old Ponychan and MLPchan merge Old Ponychan and MLPchan merge with changes including adoption of MLPchan's software and staff, while retaining the Ponychan name. Fenolio becomes the "Community Administrator" while Macil becomes the "Technical Administrator."[2][3]
January 15, 2017: Fenolio steps down Fenolio steps down due to conflicts with Macil, with Astra becoming the new co-admin alongside Macil. Astra pushes for a more civil atmosphere following the merger between Old Ponychan and MLPchan. Astra is also responsible for much of the board restructuring during this time.[4][5][6][7]

July 16, 2017: Fenolio and Astra step down Both co-admins step down due to lack of interest, transferring site administration to Mikie and The Person Who Posts As Fluttershy (TPWPAF). Mikie makes a general attempt to add the "pony" back into Old Ponychan.[11]
April 12, 2018: TPWPAF steps down TPWPAF steps down, leaving Mikie as the sole administrator.
April 24, 2019: Toybox appointed as moderator Mikie appoints Toybox as moderator, mistakenly believing him to be the voice of reason, in a decision that Mikie will later come to regret.[12]
October 5, 2020: Mikie steps down Mikie steps down from site administration, likely due to the stress of managing the site.[13]
November 21, 2020: Toybox listed as admin Toybox takes over as admin, marking the beginning of a period of stagnation and decline.[14]
July/August 2021: /ef/ board is removed The /ef/ Everfree board, which boasts a "laxer atmosphere and fewer rules," is removed in a highly controversial move.
August 25, 2021: Voidchan created Voidchan is launched by (Anon/Void)Cat as a splinter-chan of Old Ponychan in response to the loss of /ef/ as well as Toybox's administration.[15]
December 8, 2023: Old Ponychan to shut down The official announcement is made that Old Ponychan will shut down in one month, with the site administration refusing to pass Old Ponychan to interested users.[16]
December 20, 2023: Creation of NotPonychan.net Not Ponychan is announced by user ⛵, hosted at NotPonychan.net, using open-source repositories and initially plagued by technical difficulties.[17]
December 25, 2023: Creation of Ponychan.org An anonymous user (later going by Kiff) launches Ponychan.org using the same open-source repositories, avoiding many of the technical issues that affected NotPonychan.net.[18]
February 4, 2024: Voidchan merges with Ponychan Voidchan merges with NotPonychan.net to become the /void/ board.[19]
